2021 recap: well, that was... a year

2021 is finally over and the only thing I can say is.... what the everloving FUCK was that

Anywaysss let's ignore the fact I spent like 80% of this year in a constant state of anxiety and existential dread and focus on the good things that happened instead!

In chronological order:

 - I celebrated my 19th birthday... in lockdown 😬 It was still a pretty cool day, I went for a long, really relaxed walk in the park with my mum and I got to have hot chocolate and caaaake

- It snowed in February! I love snow so much, it's enough to make my entire year lmao. Staring out at the snow falling and making the garden so pretty while I sat in online lessons (yawn) was so cool

- I finally got to see my friends a lot after lockdown; I felt like I got a lot closer to some of my old friends, as well as making a lot of new ones

- I had my first relationship! (And my first breakup a few months later but shush)

- My mental health was shite the entire first half of the year but I got through it 😀👍

- Spring was pretty

- I dip-dyed my hair

- For my mum's birthday we ate a lot of homemade sundaes

- I had my first proper holiday in two years and spent four days by the sea in Bournemouth!

the water was c o l d

we went to a cat cafe while we were there! it was so cute

- I also went on days out with my parents to Brighton and Southend-on-Sea which was really lovely

brighton

- I got my first proper job!! It's just volunteering behind the till at a charity shop, but it's been a really good experience so far, I feel like my confidence has really grown since I started working there and it's something I can put on my CV when I apply to future jobs

- I got to visit central London again for the first time in ages

- I started my second year of university and finally got to have proper lessons on campus!! It's so good to finally have the uni experience and actually sit in classes with my friends; we hung out a lot before and after classes and it was really cool. Also my campus is so prettyyyyy

- Autumn was also very pretty

leefs :D

- My mental health was still pretty shite but at least I was occupied with other stuff now which actually made me feel better, I didn't have enough time to spiral into anxiety every other day

- I read out a couple of poems at an LGBTQ+ poetry event hosted at my uni! It was nerve-wracking as hellll to go up there and talk in front of dozens of people but I'm so proud of myself for doing it. Everyone clapped and I almost cried

🥺

- In terms of my writing, it hasn't been great this year -- I edited the novel I wrote last year but I didn't manage to finish any more first drafts. I started writing a sequel to that novel, got bored and started writing something else, got bored of that after 10 pages and started something else, then got bored of that after like 20 pages and went right back to the sequel 😐 I'm sort of committed to it now, but I've been so busy with uni work and life stuff that I'm barely halfway through despite having started it in like April

- I cut my hair! It's shorter than it's ever been and I love it so much

- I had a cold over Christmas which kinda sucked 😐 I was so concerned it was covid, especially with cases rising so fast and a whole bunch of my friends having it, I took a bunch of rapid tests and they all gave me a negative result and I recovered really quickly so it was fine in the end. I still preferred to stay at home tho, I just chilled with my parents and it was actually really nice

- I SURVIVED!!!

In conclusion: 2021 was kind of a bitch but I'm still grateful to it for all the growth I've been through. Here's hoping 2022 is less of a shitshow and that it's filled with friendship and laughter and good memories! (I'm having a major freakout over the fact I'm going to be twenty in ten days... I still feel like three kids in a trench coat, I have no idea what I'm doing half the time.)

What are the highlights from your 2021? What are you looking forward to in 2022? Does anyone still read this blog I abandoned for a whole year?
