i rate the texts i've read in english lit

(cover images taken from Goodreads)

A Streetcar Named Desire

a streetcar named desire

morally-grey characters // social commentary // intrigue // tension // dark pasts // nice and short so it doesn't drag // sO mUcH tEnSiOn // none of the characters are good people and i am HERE for it // makes you re-think right and wrong // everyone in this story is  morally shitty but you also feel for them // i just really like stories like this ok // also the movie is amazing // 10/10

The Help

the help

actually written in this century so that's nice // humour // thought-provoking // multiple narrators which i generally like // light-hearted but also really poignant and hard-hitting at times // i really felt for the characters // tackles racism in a way that is accessible to everyone // a bit too long and rambly // i couldn't really relate or connect to the characters so much // 7/10

Ariel

ariel

hella confusing // you need to know every detail of the author's life and also have someone guiding you through an in-depth analysis in order to having a fighting chance of understanding a single poem // honestly confused // looks like plath just slapped random words on a page and called it a poem // i liked 'daddy' though // and once you know plath's life story i guess you can feel the emotion behind her words // 4/10

Tess of the D'Urbervilles

tess of the d'urbervilles

boring af // it was too LONG // entire pages where nothing happens except descriptions of fields and cows and farmers working and ??? am BORED // tess is the most inconsistent character i've ever read, one second she's all determined and strong and the next she's all passive and cannot make one (1) decision by herself // she's so stupid // she just annoyed me ok // angel is a bastard // i actually liked the beginning but then it went downhill // makes some pretty good comments on society's views on women which i do appreciate // 2/10

Othello

othello

absolutely fucking pointless // he's massively in love with his wife ?? and then his friend tells him she's cheating on him ?? and instead of talking to her ?? he fucking kills her ?? // i don't get the POINT // they make too much of a fuss about a stupid handkerchief // every single character is stupid // i hate this story // why does it exist // 0/10

have you read any of these texts? do you study english lit at school? if so, talk to me about the books you've read!
